Norway has been privileged to recognize heroes, with stewardship of the Nobel Peace Prize (a bequest of Alfred Nobel, the Swedish inventor of nitroglycerine and dynamite). While not all recipients qualify as heroes, most have sacrificed something they considered important for the general good. What effect does this role have on Norway and Norwegians? What would be different about this prize if an institution other than the Norwegian government awarded it?
