NINA HYNES
PRESS RELEASE OCTOBER 2000
Fresh from a tour of the East Coast of America, appearances with
STEREOLAB, CAT POWER, and DAVID GRAY, electro-alternative
act NINA HYNES, is heading back into the studio to
begin work on the act's eagerly anticipated first album proper.
The band's debut mini-album, "CREATION"
not only received great reviews in Ireland, but America and Europe
warmly embraced it. Although only select markets in America have
been exposed to it, the release received strong support from both
radio and press there. It finally gets an American release in November
2000.
Amazon.com listed CREATION as No. 44 in their
TOP 100 RELEASES OF 1999, beating out Sparklehorse, Pavement, David
Bowie, Stereolab, Underworld and Tindersticks. The Austin Chronicle
described the band as "Mazzy Star meets Serge Gainsborough
at the Cowboy Junkies House", while The New York Times
hailed NINA HYNES as "An enchanting cross between Björk
and Massive Attack".
While NINA seems to be eternally busy, she has some houw found
time to collaborate with several other high-profile acts. Two of
her songs have been included on an album by German Cellist Wolfram
Hushoke released on BMG Classics (The album also features
songs by Marianne Faithful and Mimi Goese).
She also collaborated on a yet to be released album with French
avant-garde producer Hector Zazou and toured Europe
singing with the classical composer and former 4AD artist Harold
Budd. In addition to all this, NINA was fortunate enough
to be invited on stage to sing with the late Jeff Buckley
during his very last visit to Belfast.
Other collaborations include re-mixes of the acts' songs by BASS
ODYSSEY (Quadraphonic) and BASIC (Kitchen
Records; U2s dance imprint), who have each re-mixed songs from CREATION.
Listen for the results on a dance floor near you.
